Supporting place-based action to reduce health inequalities

The coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated in the clearest way possible the interconnection between public health and the health of the economy. But local authorities have long been aware of this.

They have long understood that poor health is one of the greatest barriers to finding and retaining a satisfying and rewarding job and wider involvement in society. Conversely, having high-quality employment and being socially connected are key factors in a person’s health and wellbeing.
